                           New MacOS 8 Stuff

Tex-Edit Plus sports several new features which will be of interest to those of you who use MacOS 8.

Navigation Services (8.0)

Navigation Services replace the old open and save dialogs with which we are all so familiar. The new dialogs are attractive (Appearance-aware), movable, and resizable. They use disclosure triangles for quick multi-folder navigation. Convenient menus show recently-accessed items as well as a list of user-chosen favorite items. It is even possible to select and open multiple files simultaneously!

Contextual Menus (8.0)

Contextual menus are a great new feature of OS 8.0. Pressing the Control key while clicking in a document window (or clicking the right button of a two-button mouse) displays a pop-up menu full of convenient shortcuts.

Appearance Manager (8.0)

The Appearance Manager coordinates the look of the standard Mac human interface, so that all windows and controls look right. It also provides the underlying support for themes, which allows radical system-wide interface customization.

Window Proxies (8.5)

Each document has a small icon in the title bar, next to the window title, that serves as a proxy
for that documents icon in the Finder. This proxy icon can be dragged from the windows title bar, allowing you to move, copy, trash, or make an alias of the documents file without a trip to the Finder.

The proxy icon also displays the type of the document, as well as whether or not it has been saved. Documents which need to be saved have a dim (inactive) proxy icon.

Window Path Popup (8.5)

Hold down the command key and click on the window title to see the window path popup menu. This menu shows the folder path leading to the document and allows you to open any of the folders along that path with a single click.

Proportional Scrollbars (8.5)

If you select the system-wide Appearance preference for proportional scroll boxes, then the size of the scrollbar will be proportional to the fraction of the document which is visible in the window.
